No matter the time of the year you can have a fun Christmas movie night to bring a bit of holiday magic to your day! These tips will help you plan the perfect night.
Christmas movie nights don’t have to only take place around the holidays. They are a fun way to bring a bit of magic to your day all year long.
I love to watch Christmas movies when I feel stressed or overwhelmed. They can help us think of happier times and forget about our current stresses.
Having the occasional Christmas movie night is a fun tradition to start whether you do it only around the holidays or during Christmas in July or all year long.
If you need some ideas for making your movie night more fun I’ve got some fun tips for you. Sure you can just pop in a movie and watch it but you can also make the night even more fun with these ideas.
How to Plan a Christmas Movie Night
Pick Your Christmas Movie
Look through your movie stash or check the streaming services you have for the best options. I like to keep a running list of the Christmas movies I have in my Christmas planner, that way I don’t forget. It’s easier to forget these days when digital movies.
Once you have some ideas poll those that will be joining in and see which movie is the favorite option. Keep the rest of your list for future movie nights.
Make Some Fun Snacks
Popcorn and candy is always a classic option. You can also make a fun tray of snacks. Make it as simple or as fancy as you’d like. You can get everyone involved in making the snacks to extend the time together.
These are some fun snack options I like to have during Christmas movie nights-
- White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn
- Christmas Funfetti Cake Mix Cookies
- Peppermint White Hot Chocolate
- Frozen Hot Chocolate Frappe
You could even make a themed snack to go along with your movie. That’s always one of my favorite things to do. There is something really fun about eating some cheese pizza while watching Home Alone.
Decorate Your Space
If you are having your movie night during the holidays you will likely just need some cozy blankets and pillows. I love to just turn off all the lights other than the Christmas lights while watching Christmas movies.
If you are having a Christmas movie night when your home isn’t already decorated for the holidays you can make some fun homemade decorations or throw up a few twinkle lights. Even just using a few Christmas mugs for your drinks can help make it more festive.
When I was a kid I remember when Disney Channel would do a Christmas in July special and I’d pull out my Christmas stuffed animals and draw a Christmas tree on a chalkboard I had to be my decorations. Just get creative!
Having a Virtual Christmas Movie Night
During these times we need to keep more distance between each other and that has lead to a lot of creative ways to be together while we are apart.
Hosting a virtual Christmas movie night is a great way to connect with your loved ones and do something fun together while staying safe.
You can do this in a few ways. You can all plan to watch the same movie at the same time and just talk about it after or you can use a service like Netflix Party to watch together.
You could even set up Zoom or Facetime and just have everyone muted until after but it can feel like you are all together. After the movie, you can unmute and chat.
If you want to take this to the next level have each person pick a snack or snack recipe to share. You’ll each how to make or get your own but it can still be a bit more like everyone bringing something to the party.
If you live close and everyone is healthy and can use recommended food safety guidelines you could actually share. Just make sure you have contactless deliveries of the snacks.
