I have been known to drink hot chocolate all year. Even if it’s 100 degrees you may find me sipping on a cup of hot chocolate. It’s just delicious and like Christmas in a mug. However, sometimes it is nice to have a cold drink and frozen hot chocolate means I can have a cold drink and still have my hot chocolate.
I’ve made frozen hot chocolate frappes in the past and recently made an adorable Mickey-inspired frozen hot chocolate but now I want to share another really fun frozen hot chocolate, a frozen hot chocolate martini!
I’ve heard about the frozen hot chocolate in Disney World and while I’d love to get back to Disney World and try it that isn’t happening soon. So instead I made my own at home.
This version is very light on the alcohol but I’m going to share options for alcohol-free and how to make it stronger if you’d prefer that. I’m also sharing tips for making it dairy-free. If you just want the original recipe scroll down for the full recipe.
How to Make a Frozen Hot Chocolate Martini
This is a very simple cocktail to make and it requires very simple ingredients. There are some supplies you will need to get started but you likely have them on hand.
- Jigger (or anything to measure liquid in ounces)
- Cocktail Mixing Glass (or tall glass)
- Bar Spoon (or a long spoon)
- Blender
- Martini Glasses
The ingredients you will need for the regular frozen hot chocolate martini:
- Hot Chocolate Mix
- Milk
- Vodka
- Vanilla Bitters
- Ice
- Optional: Mini Marshmallows
Making the frozen hot chocolate martini is very simple and no bartending skills are required!
- Add the milk, hot chocolate mix, vodka, and vanilla bitters to a mixing glass and mix well. It’s okay if the hot chocolate mix doesn’t mix in all the way.
- Add ice to the blender and pour your liquids on top.
- Blend until smooth.
- Top with mini marshmallows if desired.
That’s all! Now you can enjoy your delicious frozen hot chocolate martini.
Using Different Types of Alcohol
If you don’t want to use vodka I recommend using white rum. You can also leave out some of the milk and use an Irish cream like Bailey’s instead.
If you want the drink to be stronger you can up the amount of vodka while reducing some of the milk. You can also leave the amount of vodka the same but replace some of the milk with Irish cream. This drink is very easy to adjust to your tastes.
Also, consider experimenting with different vodkas. You can use flavored vodkas to give your martini a different taste. Some that would be delicious include peppermint, caramel, vanilla, cherry, and raspberry, the options are endless.
Making an Alcohol-Free Frozen Hot Chocolate Martini
To make a mocktail frozen hot chocolate martini you can simply leave out the vodka and bitters (leave in for a low-alcohol cocktail). Serve it in a martini glass and enjoy! It’s very delicious this way as well.
You can also make a great mocktail using zero-proof alcohol. I love to use zero-proof alcohol to make fun cocktails without the alcohol. My favorite is Ritual Rum Alternative. It is a stronger flavor than vodka so I’d slowly add it in to see if you like the taste with this martini.
Do remember that bitters do contain a small amount of alcohol so leave them out if serving to a child or someone that is alcohol-free.
What to Use in Place of Vanilla Bitters
Vanilla bitters are not something everyone has in their bar. I do highly recommend getting some because they can be used in a lot of drinks and are delicious but they aren’t necessary for this cocktail.
Instead, you can just use vanilla vodka or add a few drops of vanilla extract. You can also just leave them out. The vanilla flavor is nice in the martini but it will still be delicious without it.
Making a Dairy-Free Frozen Hot Chocolate Martini
This cocktail can easily be made dairy-free. You’ll just need to sub-out two of the ingredients, the milk and the hot chocolate mix which can have dairy in it.
There are a lot of great dairy-free hot chocolate mixes out there. Even the classic Swiss Miss makes a non-dairy hot chocolate mix. You can also easily make your own at home.
For the milk you can use any dairy alternative you like. My favorite is Oatly Barista Blend or Califa Farms Barista Blend. I often make oat milk hot chocolate and it’s delicious and would be like this as well.
My final tip for this delicious Christmas cocktail is to chill your martini glass in the freezer while making the drink. It will help keep your cocktail cold longer.
