Want to save money? Find out what you should buy in August to save money. This is also a great way to reduce holiday stress and save money for Christmas.

Shopping cart filled with school supplies

Fall stuff is making its way to store shelves and Christmas is fast approaching. You may even start to see some Christmas decor sneaking its way into stores.

This is a big reminder of how quickly Christmas is coming and that can mean a reminder of all the money you will be spending soon.

Christmas doesn’t have to be expensive though. Simplifying helps save money and buying ahead can also save you big bucks!

Knowing what to buy when can mean even bigger savings. Each month there are different things that are commonly on sale and August has some great items that can help you save money this holiday season.

Make sure you have your Christmas budget finished and your Christmas planner set up and ready to go. You don’t want to overspend before the holidays are even here.

Cleaning Supplies

With kids headed back to school, many cleaning products will be on sale. Wipes, disinfectants, and hand sanitizers are some of the items you will likely find.

Stock up now so you are ready for some pre-holiday cleanup. Things like cleaning wipes will also be nice when you want to keep your home clean with minimal effort during the busy holiday season.

School Supplies

Many items in the school supply section can make great gifts. Notebooks, colored pencils, journals, travel cups, totes, and more are perfect little gifts.

Don’t forget things like tape that will be great for your gift wrapping supplies and supplies you may need for crafting, like glue and markers.

Kid’s Clothes

Another thing on sale because of back to school is kid’s clothes. If you like to give clothing gifts this a good time to look for some of those.

Also, check to see if your area has a sales tax holiday so you can save even more. Most areas seem to have these early August so pay attention.

Home Decor and Storage

Need storage containers for Christmas organization? Or maybe you just want to get organized before the holiday season to make life easier. Either way with people headed back to college storage containers are on sale.

A lot of home decor items are also on sale right now for college dorm rooms. These items can make great gifts for people on your list.

Summer Leftovers

A lot of summer essentials were on sale last month but some still will be or may have even made their way to clearance racks with even bigger discounts.

Some of these items make great gifts and if you are going to travel anywhere warm and sunny during the holiday season you may need some of these summer supplies.

Save Even More Money

Want to save even more money? Use cashback apps to get cash or gift cards from the purchases you are already making. It’s a great way to get some extra money for the holidays.

My favorite apps are the Ibotta app, which is an easy to use app that will give you cash back on some of the items you are buying. You simply scan receipts that contain products they currently have offers for and you can get cashback.

My other favorite is Fetch Rewards. It works like Ibotta but you don’t have to find the offers and you get some points for every receipt, even if there are no special offers. I love to redeem my points for Amazon gift cards to use at Christmas time. Enter my referral code, TN8EW, during signup and you’ll get 2,000 Fetch Points ($2.00 in points!) when you complete one receipt.

And for things you order online use Rakuten (formerly Ebates). All you have to do is install the app and it will tell you when you can earn cashback. You can also get $10 just for signing up and making a qualified purchase.

And be sure to sign up for my emails below so you will get alerted when I have more “what to buy” posts. I’m going to do one every month and you don’t want to miss them.
