You can save a lot of money by shopping ahead for Christmas and watching for good sales. This list will help you know what to buy in September to save money.
We have reached the 3-month mark. Soon the holiday season will be here and we will be busy running around going to activities and not wanting to think about Christmas shopping.
Getting your Christmas shopping done ahead of time can help reduce so much stress and allow you more time for the things you want to enjoy this year.
Each month different items tend to go on sale and that is the best time to pick up those items to get stocked up. September has a lot going on like Labor Day, back to school, the start of fall, and even National Coffee Day.
All of those things that are packed into September can lead to some big savings for you if you are a smart shopper. This list can help you know what items to be on the lookout for. Just remember, don’t buy things just because they are on sale, stick to your list!
What to Buy in September
School Supplies
With back to school time winding down there will be some great school supplies on clearance and now is the time to get them.
Many of these items make great stocking stuffers. Colored pencils or crayons along with some notebooks can be great for the kids that love to draw. You can often find clay and Play Dough as well for the younger kids.
Tissues are good to stock up on as well. We are getting to cold and flu season so it’s a good idea to build up your supply now while you can find good deals. Speaking of cold and flu season, don’t forget the hand sanitizer.
Snacks that are good for lunchboxes are also likely on sale now. Check the date but many of these items can be good for the busy holiday season or even as stocking stuffers.
Don’t forget to pick up some tape as well, that will come in handy when wrapping gifts.
Labor Day Sales
Around Labor Day all kinds of things go on sale. It’s a good idea to have your Christmas list ready to go in case you can get some of these items on sale.
You can also stock up on some pantry items like dip mixes and chips for any holiday parties. Just make sure to check the dates.
Apples & Pears
Apple and pear season is here and if you use either in your holiday baking pick some up now. You can even can apples and pears very easily to have on hand for pies and other treats.
Apple sauce and apple juice may also be on sale if you use other of those items for holiday baking.
Dorm Room Sales
To help kids get ready for college a lot of dorm room supplies are on sale in September. Things like mattresses, small appliances, bedding, storage items, and small furniture.
Check your Christmas gift list to see if you need any of these items. Also, check your Christmas organization to see if you need some new organization bins.
National Coffee Day
Don’t forget to look for free coffee on National Coffee Day which is September 29th. You can drink your coffee while doing other sale shopping.
You will also likely see some coffee sales around this time. Pick up some coffee beans and stick them in your freezer so you are ready to entertain around the holidays.
Canned Soup
Canned soup often goes on sale around this time and is great to have stocked up in your pantry for easy meals or sick family members.
Check any recipes you will be making during the holidays to see if any canned soup is on the ingredient list if so pick some up to have ready to go.
SAVE EVEN MORE MONEY
A great way to save more money for the holidays is by using cashback apps. There are a lot out there but there are a few that are my favorites.
My favorite apps are the Ibotta app, which is an easy to use app that will give you cashback on some of the items you are buying. You simply scan receipts that contain products they currently have offers for and you can get cashback.
My other favorite is Fetch Rewards. It works like Ibotta but you don’t have to find the offers and you get some points for every receipt, even if there are no special offers. I love to redeem my points for Amazon gift cards to use at Christmas time. Enter my referral code, TN8EW, during signup and you’ll get 2,000 Fetch Points ($2.00 in points!) when you complete one receipt.
And for things you order online use Rakuten (formerly Ebates). All you have to do is install the app and it will tell you when you can earn cashback. You can also get $10 just for signing up and making a qualified purchase.
Don’t forget to also get the free money-saving challenge worksheet by signing up below. It can help you save money and get ready for the holiday season.
