Try this homemade hot chocolate recipe this holiday season. It’s easy to make, delicious, and a wonderful gift. Once you try this you will never buy hot chocolate mix again. I received jars from SKS Bottle & Packaging for this post.
I love to make myself a cup of hot chocolate and watch Christmas movies. It’s one of my favorite things to do during the holiday season and I have been known to start doing so in October.
Since it’s something I enjoy so much I go through a lot of hot chocolate. I enjoy making it the fancy way with melted chocolate but often I just reach for some hot chocolate mix.
I almost bought some hot chocolate mix the other day but decided to make my own. I’m unsure why I had never made homemade hot chocolate mix before.
It’s extremely easy and this recipe makes around 20 cups of homemade hot chocolate. It’s not quite as rich as the one I make with melted chocolate but it’s much quicker and still very good.
You can make it with milk or just water. I usually use water and a splash of milk. It’s creamiest with milk but water is still delicious.
You want to store the mix in an air-tight container to keep it fresh. It’s best if you use it within 3 months. I don’t think that will be a problem though.
I like to top mine with mini marshmallows (homemade marshmallows are best!) or whipped cream. Even better add a candy cane, my favorite is the YumEarth Organic Mini Candy Canes.
Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix
This recipe for homemade hot chocolate mix is my favorite because it only uses a few ingredients and is easy to throw together, even if you want to double the recipe you can have it ready in about 5 minutes.
You can make it even easier by using Instacart to deliver the groceries to your door. I love to use this option around the holidays to save me a lot of time. Now let’s get to the fun part, the recipe.

You will need these ingredients:
To make the homemade hot chocolate mix all you need to do is sift all of the ingredients together. You can also use a food processor, you just want to make sure there are no lumps.
Once you have your mix made you can put it into jars. I like to use jars from SKS Bottle & Packaging. The jars used in this post are their 8-oz clear jelly jars and the lids. They have other great jars you can use for this homemade hot chocolate mix and other gifts in jars so be sure to check out the SKS Bottle & Packaging website as well as their Amazon store.
I like to tie a cute Christmas ribbon on the jars. You’ll want to also include the instructions for making the hot chocolate. You can use any label or print off some of my free Christmas tags and write the directions on the tag.
The directions for making each cup are- Add 1/3 cup of hot chocolate mix to mug with 1 cup of hot milk or water. Stir until dissolved.
